Bergen opens new passenger terminal

 

The new terminal at Bergen Airport has been opened by Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg.  The building has capacity to handle up to 10m ppa, and will provide travellers with a more spacious facilities and adidtional of restaurants and shops.

Work on the project has taken three years and cost NOK3.7bn.  It was designed to offer energy savings, and other environmental benefits as well as improved passenger flow.  The new building adds 63,000m2 of floor space for passenger and airline facilities, 28 additional check-in desks including 12 automated bag drops and 12 self-service kiosks, eight security lanes.  It is connected to 15 gates, nine for domestic flights and six for international departures.  There are also nine new restaurants and bars, six extra shops, and four more kiosks.  The facility also boasts a SAS Scandinavian business class lounge.

At the same time, it was announced that sustainable biofuel is also now being offered to airlines, with Bergen being only the second airport in Norway to have a supply available.

Aslak Sverdrup, Airport Director said:”We’re now providing even better facilities for travellers and airlines. Hopefully this will mean more direct flights to big, important domestic and foreign destinations.”

Prime Minister Solberg added “Flesland plays a vital role in tourism and industry in the region.  Now that the airport has doubled its capacity, we have a large international airport that Western Norway can be proud of.  This is a state-run flagship project that has run on schedule and within budget and [airport operator] Avinor can be proud of the work that went into this expansion.”
