Brisbane welcomes Ben the Brick Builder

Ben Craig, also known as Ben the Brick Builder, has taken on the role of Artist-in-Residence at Brisbane Airport (BNE).  For the next 12 months, as part of the BricksBNE project, Craig will be creating two ‘walls’ of artwork – depicting travel experiences from passengers – entirely from LEGO bricks.

Travellers will be encouraged to share their travel experiences for the opportunity to be recreated in bricks.  Anchoring the displays in each wall will be two large scale works by Craig – one showing a day in the life of Brisbane Airport’s International almost 6.5ft (2m) in length, and the other a detailed model of a new aviation wonder more than 3ft (1m) long.

Brisbane’s Artist-in-Residence programme was launched in 2015.  It has previously featured realist painter Robert Brownhall and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, both of which have performed twelve-month stints in the terminal building.

A detailed feature on Brisbane International Airport appeared in the July-August issue of Airports of the World.  It is available via the Key Publishing Shop.
