Its that time of year again, and the ever-popular Christmas market is now open in the Munich Airport Center Forum (MAC).
The event has been taking place for nineteen years in the big covered space between terminals one and two. Visitors can stroll between more than 40 stands that offer seasonal foods and refreshments, local handicrafts and unique gift ideas. A highlight at the heart of the market is a 6,460st ft (600m2) ice rink, where visitors can skate or try Eisstockschiessen – Bavaria’s traditional broom-free version of curling. Skating is free of charge and rental skates are available at for a nominal fee.
Entertainment will also include a stage program featuring a variety of local acts. On Saturday November 25, do-it-yourself fans will have a chance to design and make their very own advent calendar with expert help while children can find a creative outlet in a Christmas wreath-making workshop. From Tuesdays to Sundays starting at 6pm, musical performances will take place and on Thursdays, a rinkside DJ will provide a disco atmosphere for the skaters, and will feature the latest hits and old favorites.
Every Wednesday is the special program for the young ones: at 4pm they can see enchanting fairy tale performances and magic shows. St. Nicholas will drop by in person on December 6, and on December 17 the Christ Child will pay a visit to the MAC Forum.
The market will be open daily from 11am to 9pm until December 30, although on Fridays and Saturdays the food and refreshment stalls will be open until10 pm. On Christmas Eve the Christmas and Winter Market will close its doors at 5 pm.
